Box Score It was an afternoon to remember for first year head women's basketball coach
Alex Focke and his team. The Pipers used the balanced attack to record their first win of the season -- a 76-41 triumph over North Central at Clark-Danielson Gym in downtown Minneapolis Saturday.
The Pipers didn't look like a team playing its third game in a span of 67 hours. Focke earned his first HU head coaching win by employing all 15 players at his disposal -- 14 of which scored points. Hamline's attack was so balanced nobody even reached double figures.
Alaina Quaranta and
Reilly Geistfeld scored nine apiece with
Morgen Coleman,
Molly Wampler and
Megan Schmitt (pictured) adding seven. Quaranta added a game high six assists and five steals while Geistfeld led the battle of the boards with eight rebounds.
Violet Kennedy added six as HU held a 47-44 advantage in total rebounds.
HU took charge early, grabbing a 19-5 first quarter advantage and never looking back. HU pushed the lead to 39-18 at halftime and 53-27 after three quarters of play. A tight defense frustrated the Rams, holding them to 26.4 percent from the field. HU shot a season high 40.6 percent, including seven three-pointers. The defense also forced the Rams into 29 turnovers, including 18 steals.
Thus, a busy first week of play ends with Hamline holding a 1-2 overall mark. HU can now catch its breath a bit. The next game is Tuesday, November 28 at Wisconsin-Superior. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
