Box Score The Hamline lacrosse team staged a heckuva rally Saturday at Illinois Tech. Unfortunately, the home team did the same thing and ended up dealing the Pipers a 12-11 loss.
Dana Almquist scored four goals and
Radian Lenz and
Brayden Maass added two each for HU, which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. Hamline is 3-2 overall, 1-1 in MWLC play.
The Pipers fell behind early and trailed 7-3 at halftime. Goals by Almquist, Lindsay Jackman and Maass in the first six minutes of the second half chopped the lead to 7-6. The Scarlet Hawks went up 8-6 but
Kalley Elwell got that one back. Lenz then scored twice in a span of 20 seconds and HU went ahead for the first time at 9-8 with 14:06 to play.
IT scored three of the next four goals for an 11-10 bulge but Almquist, who leads HU with 15 goals, evened matters with 9:16 left.
The Scarlet Hawks, who are now 5-0 (2-0 MWLC), then proved to get what would be the last word on a goal with 4:59 to play. Despite pressure (Maass hit the goalpost with five seconds left), HU couldn't get the equalizer.
Molly Dionne had nine saves in goal for the Pipers.
Hamline continues its Windy City area tour Sunday with a game at Concordia (Illinois). Game time is 12:00 p.m.
