Almquist Nets Seven In Lacrosse Win

3/19/2017 6:05:00 PM

Box Score Dana Almquist wielded a very hot stick Sunday for the Hamline lacrosse team. The junior fired in seven goals -- one short of the school record -- as Hamline evened their Illinois trip with a 15-6 win over Concordia (IL) in River Forest, Illinois. Almquist, whose 22 goals leads the Pipers, tied her career best in a game accumulated twice last season. It was one short of the school record set by Maddie Brown last year.

The win moved the Pipers -- who fell to Illinois Tech, 12-11, yesterday -- to 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference.

The Hugo, Minn. native broke a 2-all tie deadlock with a pair of goals 82 seconds apart in the first half. Later, Almquist and Radian Lenz scored twice each as HU went to the locker room with a 7-4 advantage.

In the second half, the margin went to 10-4 before Concordia came up with a pair to make things interesting with eight minutes to play. HU, however, rattled off the last five tallies (Lenz added two more to finish with four on the day) to claim the verdict.

Molly Dionne had six saves in goal for Hamline.

The Pipers return to Klas Field next weekend to face Benedictine (4-2, 2-0 MWLC) on Saturday, March 25 at 1:00 p.m. and Aurora (3-3, 2-0 MWLC) on Sunday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m.
