Box Score You could safely say that
Dana Almquist -- and the Hamline women's lacrosse team -- had the wind at their back Saturday against Benedictine at Klas Field. Almquist (19) tied a school record for most goals in a game with eight and the Pipers broke away for 12 in the first half en route to a 16-3 win over the Eagles. Almquist, a junior, started the ball rolling 1:59 into the game. By the time the teams reached intermission, she already had a half dozen markers and Hamline was well on its way to improving to 5-2 overall, 3-1 in the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference.
In addition to Almquist's outburst -- which tied the mark set by
Maddie Brown in the first game in school history last year --
Radian Lenz scored thrice,
Kalley Elwell had a pair with
Sydney Dynneson,
Dani Perry and
Katie Pearson adding singles.
Dynneson's unassisted effort at 5:55 snapped a 1-1 tie and put Hamline ahead for good. HU scored the next eight goals as well en route to the 10-goal margin at halftime. Almquist added two more in the second half to push her team leading total to 30. (Lenz is second with 14.)
On the other end of the spectrum,
Molly Dionne recorded nine saves to lower her goals-against average to 7.76.
The Pipers, who are now 9-0 all-time at Klas Field, get back at it Sunday against Aurora (4-4, 3-0 MWLC), a 10-7 winner over Augsburg Saturday. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
