Anthony Tyler took on 63 competitors in the Discus, including throwers from Division I (Minnesota), Division II (Concordia-St. Paul, Minnesota-Duluth) and some of the best Division III has to offer.
And he beat them all.
The senior threw 157-04 -- 12 feet farther than anyone else -- to win the competition at the HU Invite held Saturday at Klas Field. It is easily the best throw of the young MIAC season and currently ranks seventh in the country.
Tyler's toss headlined a day that saw Hamline's field brigade fare well on their home field.
Travis Jacobson was second in the Shot Put (54-4.75) and fourth in the Hammer (170-07).
Chase Duwenhoegger was right on Jacobson's tail in the Shot Put, taking third (54-04). Both throws would have been good enough to make the NCAA meet last year and should be ranked in the Top Ten in the country when the new ratings come out next week. Duwenhoegger was fourth behind Tyler in the Discus (144-00).
Eric Dols was fifth in the Shot Put (50-6 1/4).
Other notable finishes included:
Isaac Krause (5th, 800 Meters, 1:53.87), sixth place finishes for
Thane Widmer (100 Meters, 11.21) and
Rex Gould (110 Hurdles, 16.14) and a seventh place standing for
Sam Gatton (400 Hurdles, 57.49). In addition, the foursome of
Jordan Grier, Widmer, Krause and Gatton was sixth in the 4 x 400 relay (3:23.13).
