Big Three Lead Men's Hockey Past Blue Devils

1/12/2018 10:18:00 PM

Box Score The Big Three led the way for Hamline's men's hockey team Friday. Mitch McPherson and Russ Jordan scored twice each and Brandon Reinholz added one as Hamline won their first game on their new home surface -- TRIA Rink -- with a 5-3 win over Wis-Stout. The trio are the Pipers' leading goalscorers on the season.

Evan Robert had 27 saves in goal for the Pipers, who improved to 4-9-1 on the season.

McPherson increased his team lead in goals to 11 with a goal in the waning moments of the second period that tied the game and potted an empty netter in the 3rd period which secured the win.

Jordan opened the scoring in the first period and then fired in the game winner on a solo effort in the third. Reinholz's goal -- his fifth of the season -- was key as well. It came just 15 seconds after the Blue Devils tied the game in the first period.

The Jordan-Reinholz goals gave HU a 2-1 lead after one. The Blue Devils came alive in the second period with a pair of tallies but McPherson's deflection of a Jesse Kessler shot with three seconds left in the period tied the score at 3.

Jordan then untied it when he blocked a shot and raced the length of the ice for the game winner, his seventh tally.

Robert earned his first college win with a stellar effort, batting away all eight shots sent his way in the third period.

Hamline returns to TRIA Saturday night to face Wisconsin-Superior. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
