VB Overwhelms Rams To Get Back to .500 Mark

The Hamline volleyball team finished a six match homestand in style with their second straight 3-0 win -- a non-conference triumph over North Central (Minn.) Friday night. The Hutton Arena sweep lifted the Pipers back to the .500 mark overall at 10-10. The match also produced a rarity -- Hamline did not commit an error in winning the third set.

The Pipers hit a solid .412 in the first set, taking command early in a 25-8 decision. The Rams toughened up considerably in the middle set, leading for a while. The score was 17-17 when HU broke free for a 25-19 verdict. That set the stage for the perfect third set that featured 11 kills and a .524 hitting percentage in a 25-10 decision. For the night, HU committed just seven errors to finish with a .371 mark.

As was the case Wednesday in the win over Carleton, the offense was balanced. Madison Hurrle (13) had seven kills with Gabby Robinson, Morgen Coleman and Erin Leverington adding five apiece. Robinson led a 34 dig effort with nine and Karly Bihner added seven. Megan Rubbelke contributed 24 assists to push her season total to 559. The sophomore also had four of the Pipers' 12 service aces on the night.

It is the second four game winning streak of the season for head coach Maggie Meixl's crew. The Pipers now head on the road to Duluth for their final non-conference match of the season. HU faces St. Scholastica on Tuesday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. Hamline gets back into MIAC action on October 19 at St. Mary's and then wraps up the Hutton portion of the schedule on October 20 against St. Catherine at 3:00 p.m.
