It was more than just a non-conference victory for the Hamline volleyball team Tuesday night at St. Scholastica. The Pipers' 3-0 win was their fifth in a row and pushed them over the .500 mark at 11-10 overall. It's their longest winning skein since 2014 and moved them five games over the victory total for the entire 2017 season.
HU won a pair of tight squeezes from the Saints to start with, taking the first two sets by identical 25-22 scores. They broke free in the third set for a 25-14 win in the third set to seal the deal.
Madison Hurrle led the offensive charge with 11 kills with
Sydney Larson adding nine and
Morgen Coleman kicking in eight.
Gabby Robinson led a 38-dig effort with eight with
Megan Anderson adding seven and the triumvirate of
Megan Rubbelke, Coleman and
Karly Bihner contributing six. Rubbelke had 37 assists and is now four shy of 600 for the season. The sophomore is 15 shy of 1,000 assists for her career at HU.
The Pipers had another good hitting night, finishing with a .314 kill percentage and just 12 errors (two in the last set) for the night.
Hamline heads back to MIAC play for a pair of matches this weekend. On Friday, October 19, HU travels to Winona to face St. Mary's. They have their final Hutton Arena match of the season the next afternoon against St. Catherine at 3:00 p.m.
