It was a senior sendoff to remember Saturday at Paterson Field.
Dean Isaacson and
Stefan Kinsinger (19) -- two of four seniors honored in pregame ceremonies -- played major roles in Hamline's 2-0 win over St. John's Saturday that kept the Pipers' hopes for a MIAC postseason berth alive.
Isaacson had five saves for the shutout, the 16th of his HU career. Kinsinger scored the game's second goal as HU evened the overall record at 6-6-1. More importantly, they are now 3-5-1 in MIAC action. The 10 points places them in seventh place, two behind St. John's for the last playoff spot. HU will need a win at Gustavus Adolphus next week and the Johnnies to get no more than one point in their last two games to get in. But the fact they have a chance at all was due to a superb effort on a chilly, windy afternoon.
In addition to Isaacon and Kinsinger,
Jordan Wik and
Trevor Lewellen were playing their final home games Saturday.
The Pipers grabbed the advantage when Kinsinger slipped a pass to
Logan Weller, who buried a shot from close range at 10:42 to give Hamline a leg up in the game.
It stayed that way until 77:56. Kinsinger was the final link in a three way play that included
Adam King (who tied a school record with his 18th career assist) and
Ben Sorenson to make it 2-0 -- a margin that stood to the end. Isaacson did the rest with four saves in the second session. The Pipers now head to St. Peter on Tuesday, October 23 to face the first place Gusties. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
