Scores can sometimes be deceptive. Hamline's men's hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision to Wisconsin-Eau Claire Saturday at TRIA Rink. But it was a much tighter game than that score would indicate.
HU struck first when
Weiland Parrish walked around a defenseman for his second goal of the season 5:11 into the game. UWEC, which had allowed just four goals all year in winning its first four games, connected on a power play later in the frame to tie the game.
The Blugolds scored a pair of tallies six minutes apart for a 3-1 edge. The Pipers, however, charged back as
Mitch Hall (21) took advantage of a two-man advantage to fire in his second goal of the year at 4:30 of the third period. Wisconsin-Eau Claire negated that midway in the period for a 4-2 score. The Pipers pressured and eventually pulled goalie
Sam Nelson for a sixth attacker. UWEC, however, found the empty net to end the scoring.
Nelson had 28 saves for the Pipers, who are now 0-4 overall.
Hamline turns to MIAC play Thursday, November 8 against St. John's in St. Cloud (7:00 p.m.). The teams face off at TRIA Rink on Friday, November 9 at 8:00 p.m as the 2nd half of the HU Women's-Men's doubleheader.
