Box Score It was a noble rally that had an unfortunate ending. A shorthanded Hamline men's hockey team gave St. Thomas all it wanted in a 4-3 loss on the latter's rink Friday night.
Brandon Reinholz and
Jaycob McCombs had a goal and an assist for the Pipers, who dropped to 9-13-2 overall.
Playing without two regular forwards, the Pipers shook off a first period UST goal to tie the game when Reinholz finished off a three way play with
Austin Wisely and McCombs. The Tommies moved to a 3-1 third period lead only to see
Mitch Bentfield take passes from
Tommy Hall and
Drake Hunter to make it 3-2.
HU kept attacking and was rewarded when McCombs tied the game at 19:08 on feeds from Reinholz and Wisely. Unfortunaterly, UST scored with nine seconds left in the game to eke out the win.
Evan Robert had 20 saves in goal for the Pipers.
The teams meet in the regular season finale Saturday, February 17 at TRIA Rink. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
