Spriggs-Jones TD Highlights Pipers' FB Effort Against Oles

9/29/2018 10:39:00 PM

Box Score Justice Spriggs connected with Harrison Jones for the 56th TD pass of his Hamline career in the Pipers' 41-7  football loss to St. Olaf at Klas Field Saturday night. The senior QB completed 20 passes for 156 yards for Hamline, which fell to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in MIAC play. The Oles continue to be the surprise of the MIAC. They improved to 5-0 and 3-0 in league contests.

Turnovers cost the Pipers early. Three first half miscues resulted in St. Olaf touchdowns. As a result, HU trailed 27-0 at intermission.  HU got creative on its first drive of the third quarter to get on the scoreboard. Stalled with a fourth and seven at their own 44, HU punter Jordon Deno fooled the Oles with a run that went for 25 yards to the STO 31. It was the longest offensive play of the night. The Pipers kept on moving and Spriggs found Jones for a six yard scoring strike. Jones and Triston Thomas were Spriggs' favorite targets, snagging six balls apiece.

On the next Hamline series, the Pipers traveled from their own 27 to the STO 20 before being stalled on downs.

Defensively, Luke Trudell had another big night with seven solo stops and five assists. The senior leads the league in three defensive categories -- unassisted tackles (40), total tackles (60) and tackles per game (12.0).
Deno added six unassisted tackles and Loren Lorang had two for losses.

Hamline heads on the road next Saturday, October 6 with a game at Carleton. Game time in Northfield is 1:00 p.m.
