Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second Half Explosion Sends W Soccer Past Cougars

When it rains, it sometimes pours.

And we are not just referring to the precipitation that overwhelmed parts of the Twin Cities Tuesday.

The Hamline women's soccer team did some pouring of its own in winning its first game of the season, 8-0, at Minnesota-Morris Tuesday afternoon.

HU scored seven second half goals in the third biggest scoring output in the two decades plus they have played women's soccer. The school record of 12 was set in 2001 against Knox and HU scored 10 in a win over Wisconsin-Superior in 2016.

On Tuesday, Siri Parker (who, ironically, scored three times in that win over the Yellowjackets), came off the bench to net a pair of tallies. Ciara Gregory also collected the first two of her HU career. Jenna Sampson added a goal and two assists. Gaby Diaz and Ashlee Olson had a goal and a helper with Brenna Dolney contributing the other tally.

Olson's second goal of the season, set up Sampson at 12:04, was the lone first half scoring play. When Parker scored at 52:19, it unleashed a barrage that saw six more shots find the net in a matter of just 32 minutes. Gregory followed Parker's first goal 15 seconds later. Parker (13) struck again seven minutes later and the Pipers kept up the pressure the rest of the way.

At the other end, Dani Wright and Melanie Hopkins split time in goal to earn the shutout.

HU is now 1-1-1 overall. They play at Northwestern (Roseville) on September 6 at 7:00 p.m. They return to Paterson Field to host Wisconsin-River Falls on September 8 at 1:00 p.m.
