VB Gets Back on Winning Track

It didn't take long -- 15 hours to be precise -- for the Hamline volleyball team to get back on the winning track. Madison Hurrle recorded 10 kills in a balanced attack and Megan Rubbelke added 24 assists as HU improved to 5-1 on the 2018 season with a 3-0 decision over Marian (Wis.) Saturday in Superior, Wis.

Gabby Robinson had a dozen digs to improve her team leading total to 68. The Pipers took command early with a 25-14 first set win. The second set was tighter with Hamline emerging a 25-23 winner. In the third set, HU again controlled the play early for a 25-14 verdict. Hurrle, who leads the team with 73 and also leads the MIAC with 3.29 kills per set, also had three solo blocks. Hamline hit .224 as a team.

Hurrle and Rubbelke were named to the All-Tournament team.

In an exhibition match later in the day, Hamline defeated Lakehead University, 3-0.

The Pipers now turn their attention to MIAC play. They will open conference play September 12 at Gustavus Adolphus.
