The HU men's hockey team shot ... and shot ... and shot all night but Wis-Superior goalie Oscar Svensson refused to budge. The Yellowjacket tender made 46 saves and dealt the Pipers a frustrating 2-1 loss Saturday night at Wessman Arena.
Austin Wisely had the Hamline marker, a converting a
Don Carter, Jr. feed 13:10 in the second period. It was part of a 20 shot barrage the Pipers leveled at the UWS net. HU, which had 15 tries in the first period, added a dozen more in the third. Taylor Trap and
Mitch McPherson led the way with five tries apiece.
At the other end,
Sam Nelson played well. After allowing two goals in the first 5:39 of play, Nelson shut the door the rest of the night, finishing with 26 saves.
Hamline is 2-13-1 overall. They return to MIAC play this weekend with a TRIA Rink appearance on Friday, January 18 against St. Olaf. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
