A three goal third period was too much to overcome for the Hamline men's hockey team Friday night.
Tyler Nyman and
Brendan Sheehan scored for Hamline but the Oles used a three goals in four and a half minute segment to post a 5-2 win at TRIA Rink.
The visitors scored twice in the opening frame and held that lead until Nyman took a
Jake Cass pass and bulled his way through to give the Pipers life at 2-1 after two periods. HU even survived being short two men for 99 seconds and appeared to have some momentum entering the final frame.
But it was the Oles who scored at 4:38 and two minutes later on a power play. A third goal made it 5-1. Sheehan cut into the margin at 16:50 but that was as close as Hamline could get.
The Pipers are now 2-14-1 overall, 2-7 in MIAC play. The teams have a rematch Saturday night in Northfield.
Game time is 7:00 p.m.
