If foes didn't know it before, they do now -- Hamline sophomore men's basketball guard
Jake Larson can score from anywhere on the floor. The Forest Lake, Minn. native had a collegiate career high 22 points -- including three three-pointers -- as the Pipers defeated Macalester, 77-64, at Leonard Center Wednesday night.
Larson was had plenty of company in the double digit category.
Ethan Scheuring rattled in 18 with 11 rebounds.
Lucas Berg came off the bench for 13 points.
Isaac Brooks delivered a dozen and
Connor Knutson distributed 10. Brooks, Knutson and
Trey Prince supported Scheuring on the boards wit five apiece. HU held a 35-26 overall edged in rebounds for the game.
The Pipers broke away from a 13-all deadlock for a 20-4 run to take early control of the game. HU shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and went to the ocker room with a handsome 42-35 advantage.
They actually shot better from the field in the second half (57 per cent) but the Scots weren't far behind and used seven three pointers to close the margin to nine at 68-59 with 2:53 to play in the game. Scheuring responded with a layup and Brooks drilled a three-pointer and the margin remained in double digits the rest of the way.
As a result, the Pipers improved to 6-7 and remain in sixth place in the MIAC -- the final playoff spot. They climbed back to the .500 mark overall at 9-9. Five of their next seven games are on the friendly hardwood of Hutton Arena. First up: St. John's on Saturday, January 26. It;s the second game of a doubleheader with tipoff set for 3:00 p.m.
