The weather was frightful as snow and rain filled the air for much of Saturday afternoon's Homecoming football game at Klas Field. But the Hamline offense shrugged it off and  thrived at times, rushing for 231 yards -- their highest total in five years -- in a 14-7 loss to Carleton.

The Pipers held the ball for a remarkable 40:25 but got stopped near the goal line on several occasions to drop to 1-5 overall, 0-4 in the MIAC. 

Terrell Jones took over the team rushing with an 83 yard effort on just nine carries. One of those was a 47-yard touchdown jaunt in the second quarter. QB Manny Moton completed 11 of 20 passes for 109 yards and also ran for 42. Noah Hickman had his first playing time of the season at quarterback, completing four of six throws for 26 yards. 

Triston Thomas (pictured) was the favorite receiver, snatching seven throws for 70 yards. 

On defense, HU kept the high octane Carleton passing game under control for the most part, limiting the Knights to just 149 yards in the air. Chip Kindt had a sack and a hurry on the defensive line. Adrian Cracolici was the top tackler with six, including five solos. 

It was a scoreless game in the second quarter when the Piper defense stuffed Carleton QB Jonathan Singleton on fourth and goal at the HU 1. Unfortunately, Hamline fumbled two plays later and the Knights recovered in the end zone for a touchdown and the 7-0 lead. Later in the quarter, Moton connected with Thomas for 17 yards to start a drive. Jones rushed for five yards and then bolted free for his first college TD. 

The 7-7 score went into the fourth quarter. HU saw a scoring chance stopped when a field goal try was blocked. Later in the quarter, the Knights moved to the Piper 30 where RB Sean Goodman found a seam and broke free for the winning TD. The Pipers gave it one last shot, getting as far as the HU 40 before giving in on downs. 

Hamline now heads on the road to St. Peter on Saturday, October 26 to face Gustavus Adolphus (3-2, 1-2 MIAC). Game time is 1:00 p.m.
