ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline men's hockey team (1-3, 0-2 MIAC) were tied 2-2 with #7 Augsburg (4-0, 2-0 MIAC) heading into the third period, but three goals in the third for the Auggies lead them past the Pipers 5-2.
Â
Augsburg scored first in the game, getting on the board less than four minutes into the first. Hamline tied it up, though, before the first period was over as junior
Zak Lambrecht scored on a power-play with less than three minutes left in the first frame. He was assisted on the play by first year
Ryan Murray.
Â
The second period followed the same formula, as the Auggies scored first to pull ahead, but HU once again tied it up before the period was through. This time it was junior
Kyle Wendorf who found the back of the net, taking a pass from Lambrecht, scoring only minutes after the Auggies' goal.
Â
In the third Augsburg once again scored first, but the Pipers were unable to answer. Two more goals, including an empty-netter, made the final 5-2.
Â
Junior goalkeeper
Evan Robert took the loss in net, making 23 saves throughout the contest.
Â
The Pipers will compete again next weekend, hosting a pair of non-conference opponents. On Friday, November 15 UW-River Falls will be in town for a 7:00 p.m. game at TRIA. The following day, HU will take on Northland with the same start time.Â
