ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Hamline men's hockey team (1-3-1, 0-2 MIAC) rallied to score in the third period to help secure a tie with University of Wisconsin-River Falls (3-1-1, 0-0 WIAC) on Friday night at TRIA Rink.
The Falcons scored first in the game, getting a goal early in the second period on a power play. The Pipers found a way to answer, though, also capitalizing on a power play. First year
Jackson Bond and sophomore
Weiland Parrish found sophomore
Bailey Martin open on the far side of the net and Martin put it away to tie the game at one apiece.
The goal was Martin's first of the year and seventh of his career. The assist was Bond's fourth this season, as he leads HU with six total points, and Weiland's third.
UW-River Falls started the game aggressive, firing 19 shots at senior goalkeeper
Sam Nelson, who did not let a single one go by him. The Falcon's offense cooled off a little as the game went on, only taking six shots in the second and eight in the third.
The Pipers were held to limited chances throughout the contest, taking a total of 14 shots.
After Martin's goal in the third, neither team was able to score, despite six shots on net. The game headed into overtime. Hamline's
Zak Lambrecht was the only one who managed to get a shot on goal during the five minute period and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Nelson finished the night with 33 total saves, which was the third time this season where he has recorded 30+ saves. He is now 1-1-1 on the year.
The Pipers have another home game tomorrow night (November 16) when they will take on non-conference opponent Northland. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at TRIA Rink.
