ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Hamline men's hockey team (1-4-1, 0-2 MIAC) fell to non-conference opponent Northland (2-2) on Saturday night, as the Lumberjacks came from behind to earn a 4-3 win.
The Piper offense started strong in the game, getting two goals in the first period.
Don Carter, Jr. opened the scoring for Hamline with a goal 14 minutes in, taking a pass from teammate
John Sullivan. A little over a minute later, first year
Jackson Bond made it 2-0 with a goal of his own, being assisted by
Bailey Martin.
HU would increase that lead to three in the second period, as Bond scored again, this time finishing a passing play from
Ryan Murray and
Weiland Parrish. Bond currently leads Hamline in points so far this season with eight, which also ranks second in the MIAC.
Before the second period was done, the Lumberjacks would get one of those goals back, scoring on a power play 16 minutes in.
The third period was when Northland really kicked their offense into gear, scoring three goals throughout the period to take over the lead. They scored first five minutes in and added their second of the period four and a half minutes later while they were shorthanded.
Their final goal came with only two and a half minutes left in regulation. The Pipers were unable to get a shot off after this, leaving the final at 4-3 in favor of Northland.
First year goalie
Kevin Lake made 19 saves in the game and is 0-1-0 on the year.
HU will take on Concordia in a non-conference game next, playing on Tuesday, November 19 at 7 p.m. in St. Michael. The Pipers will then return to MIAC action, facing St. Olaf on the road on Friday, November 22 before playing them at home on November 23. Both games are set to start at 7 p.m.
