NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Hamline men's hockey team (2-5-1, 1-2 MIAC) earned their first MIAC win of the season on Friday night, taking down St. Olaf (0-7, 0-3 MIAC) 4-1 on the road.
With the win, the Pipers are now 27-28-9 when facing the Oles, getting their first win over St. Olaf since the 2017-18 season.
Hamline's offense came up big in tonight's contest, tying the most goals HU has scored in a single game so far this season. The effort was led by the sophomore duo of
Bailey Martin and
Jeron Hirschfeld, who each finished the game with three points. These were Hirschfeld's first points of the season for the Pipers.
Martin wasted no time getting the Pipers on the board, scoring 30 seconds in to put Hamline up 1-0. He was assisted by
Jackson Bond and
Weiland Parrish on the play.
The Oles answered that goal with a score of their own, taking advantage of a power play late in the period to tie it up before the first break.
Hamline rallied in the second period, though, with Hirschfeld scoring three minutes in and first year
Sam Dabrowski scoring on a power play six minutes later, giving the Pipers a two-goal lead. Hirschfeld's goal was unassisted, but Dabrowski was aided by passes from Hirschfeld and Martin.
First year Bond would add an extra insurance goal for the Pipers in the third period, scoring 15 minutes in to make the final 4-1. With the two-point game, Bond is now leading the MIAC in points on the season.
Senior goalie
Sam Nelson had a career-high 40 saves in the game to help the Pipers earn the win. He is now 2-1-1 on the year.
Hamline will look to make it two in a row tomorrow night, as they will host the Oles at TRIA Rink for a 7:00 p.m. game.
