MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Hamline men's hockey team (1-2, 0-1 MIAC) opened the 2019-20 conference season on Friday night, falling to #7 Augsburg (3-0, 1-0 MIAC) 5-1.
Â
The Auggies scored their first goal of the game on a power play 14 minutes into the first period. They would add another goal in the period to take a 2-0 lead into the first break.
Â
In the second period, Augsburg once again capitalized on a power play to make it 3-0. The Pipers answered back, though, scoring less than a minute later as sophomore
Brandon Bissett finished a passing play from junior Don Carter and first year
Jackson Bond to make it 3-1.
Â
This was Bissett's first goal on the season and Carter's first assist. Bond logged his third assist of the season on the play, as he now has one assist in each of the first three games so far this year.
Â
The Auggies put a Hamline comeback out of reach with two third period goals, going on to win it 5-1.
Â
Goalkeeper
Sam Nelson took the loss in net and moves to 1-1 on the year. The senior tallied 32 saves in the contest.
Â
The Pipers will have a chance to even their MIAC mark tomorrow, November 9, as they will host the Auggies at TRIA Rink for an 8 p.m. game.Â
