Hamline concludes Florida trip with win over Baruch

NAPLES, Fla. - In their second and final game in Florida, the Hamline men's basketball team (2-8, 0-5 MIAC) topped Baruch (5-4) 82-75 at the Community School of Naples.

Junior Michael Dillon and sophomore Luke Siwek each put up big performances for the Pipers in the game. Dillon tallied his fourth double-double on the year with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. He also added four assists and four steals. Siwek totaled a game-high 21 points (which is a new career-high), hitting 50.0% of his shots (6-12). Both Dillon and Siwek cashed in on six points from the free-throw line.

Junior Trey Prince had an efficient 10 points for HU, hitting all four of his field goals and senior Lucas Berg chipped in with six assists.

Eight different players scored for Hamline, as the team compiled a 46.3% field goal percentage. HU also scored 21 points from the free-throw line throughout the game, getting 13 of those points in the second half.

The first half went back-and-forth with neither team being able to lead by more than five points for the first 17 minutes. Towards the end of the half, however, the Bearcats went on a run, scoring 13 in a row. This put Baruch up by nine with 1:30 to go in the half. The Pipers closed out the half strong, though, putting together a 7-0 run of their own to only trail 42-40 at the intermission.

Hamline scored the first nine points of the second half, as Jake Larson, Dillon, and Berg each drained a three in the opening minutes. The Pipers were able to keep a lead for the rest of the game, at one point leading by 14.

HU's defense picked up in the second half, holding the Bearcats to a 39.3 shooting percentage, including hitting only 14.3% of their threes.

The Pipers are next in action on January 6, when they will host MIAC opponent St. Thomas at Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
