MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - This past weekend, the Augsburg and Hamline Student-Athlete Advisory Committees teamed up with Special Olympics Minnesota athletes for their annual Unified Basketball game, hosted in Si Melby Hall at Augsburg University.
The game started off slow, but began to pick up speed as athletes from both sides began to heat up the competition and fun on the court. By halftime, the score was in the mid 30s and 40s for both teams, but Hamline pulled away with the lead in the latter half and finished with over 80 points of their own to win and earn the right to keep the Hammer.Â
With teams made up of student-athletes from Hamline and Augsburg alongside SOMN athletes, the game featured eight players from each team shooting to a combined score of over 130 points.
As for the fan section, the whiteout theme was evident, as the seats were heavily populated with Hamline student-athletes from multiple athletic programs who made the drive to show their support.Â
SOMN events are a constant staple in the yearly schedule of Hamline athletics. High participation and attendance are common at all games among Hamline student-athletes, who share a genuine excitement to compete on the court or field with Special Olympics athletes for the fun of the game.
