Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pipers Strike Early, Often in Women's Soccer Win

It was exactly the kind of bounce back game Hamline women's soccer coach Emily Cripe was looking for. Jenna Sampson gave Hamline a 1-0 lead over Minnesota-Morris 26 seconds into the game Sunday at Paterson Field. As it turned out, it was a sign of coming attractions. HU kept the pressure on the Cougars all day, rolling to a 5-0 victory.

Cailey Schmitt (27) scored twice with Sarah Kennedy-Croft and Siri Parker also finding the net as Hamline improved to 3-4 overall. Ashlee Olson, who scored the lone HU goal in an OT loss Saturday at St. benedict, had a pair of assists.

HU held a whopping 29-1 edge in total shots taken and a 13-1 margin in shots on goal. Schmitt, a freshman, and Parker led the way with five shots attempts apiece.

Sampson's goal had been set up on an Olson feed from the right side. Six minutes later, Olson passed to Kennedy-Croft, who wheeled past defenders for her first collegiate goal.

It remained 2-0 until 61:03 when Schmitt combined with Lana Mitchell for her first goal of the day. 96 seconds later, Parker rifled a shot from 20 yards out. Schmitt finished off the scoring at 76:15. She now leads the Pipers in points with eight and is tied with Parker, a senior, for the team lead in goals with three.

Melanie Hopkins played the 45 minutes in goal, making one save to earn the win. Lauren Sicora made her first appearance since the first weekend of the season when she suffered an injury, playing the entire second half.

The Pipers remain home for a non-conference encounter with Northwestern on Wednesday, September 25. Game time at Paterson Field is 4:00 p.m.
