Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey | | Mary-Clare Couillard

Hamline falls in non-conference matchup with Oles

ST. PAUL, Minn. - In their first game in nearly three weeks, the Hamline men's hockey team (2-9-3) came up short against St. Olaf (2-11) in a non-conference contest at TRIA Rink on Saturday night.

This was the third meeting between the Pipers and the Oles this season, as Hamline won their first matchup 4-1 in Northfield and St. Olaf won the second matchup 4-3 in overtime in St. Paul.

The Pipers got off to a fast start in the game, with sophomore Brandon Bissett scoring his third goal of the year off a pass from sophomore John Sullivan. Sophomore Brendan Sheehan also picked up an assist on the play.

It did not take long for the Oles to answer, however, as they scored on a power play four minutes later.

The game remained tied for the rest of the first period and the majority of the second, until St. Olaf's Ashton Altmann snuck his way past the defense and scored on a breakaway to make it 2-1 in his team's favor.

The Oles added to their lead in the third, taking advantage of another power play to make it 3-1. Despite having a power play of their own late in the third period, the Pipers were unable to score, allowing St. Olaf to win it.

Junior goalie Evan Robert made a season-high 39 saves in the game, but took the loss to move to 0-4 on the year.

HU will have a road series next weekend, heading to UW-Stevens Point on Friday, January 10, and UW-Stout the following day. Both games are set for 7:00 p.m. starts. If you are unable to make the trip, check the schedule page for live video and stat links.
