Hamline starts the season against St. Olaf

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Hamline men's tennis team (0-1, 0-1 MIAC) opened their season on Friday afternoon, falling to St. Olaf (1-0, 1-0 MIAC), 7-2 at the Life Time Fitness in Bloomington.
 
The Pipers got wins in No. 2 and 3 singles, with both junior Nazeer Robinson and senior Blake Kuether winning in three sets. Robinson, playing at No. 2 singles, won the opening set 6-3, but his opponent, Ethan Bruha, took set two by a score of 6-1. It was a tight tiebreaker set with Robinson winning 10-8 to claim the match.
 
Kuether at No. 3 singles dropped the first set 4-6, but bounced back in the following two sets, winning 6-3, 11-9.
 
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Tou Ger Xiong took his opponent to three sets, falling in set one 3-6, but winning set two 6-3. His opponent, Spencer Wick, won the tiebreaker set 10-6.
 
In No. 4 doubles, Sean Le fell to Tony Klagge 6-1, 6-0 and in No. 5 doubles, Allan Yang fell to Dez Young 6-0, 6-0.
 
Both HU doubles teams fell to St. Olaf by scores of 8-2. Xiong and Kuether teamed up in the No. 1 spot and Le and Yang were partners in the No. 2 spot.
 
The Pipers continue their busy weekend with a match against Cornell tomorrow, February 15, that will be played in Eau Claire, Wisconsin at 12:00 p.m. They then return to the Bloomington Life Time for a 2:00 p.m. match against St. John's on Sunday, February 16.
