BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – In their season-opening matches, the Hamline women's tennis team (0-2) fell to Northwestern (Iowa) and MSU Moorhead at the Life Time Fitness courts in Bloomington, Minn. Both scores were 7-0 in favor of the opponent.
The Pipers started the day taking on Northwestern. In No. 1 singles, senior
Tessa Rugg took three games off her opponent in each set, but fell 6-3 in both sets. Senior
Megan Anderson won six games in her second set, but dropped the tiebreaker 10-4.
In No. 5 singles, junior
Janie Schwartz won the second set 6-0, but would see Northwestern take the tiebreaker third set 10-8.
On the doubles side, Rugg and Anderson fell just short at No. 1 doubles, by a score of 7-6 (5). Schwartz and teammate
Yee Thao were able to take four games off their opponents, but fell 6-4.

Against MSU Moorhead, a Division II school, the Pipers fell 6-1 at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. In singles, Thao was able to win three games in her first set before dropping the match 6-3, 6-0.

The Pipers will compete next on February 15 when they will take on St. Olaf in their first conference match of the season. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at the Bloomington Life Time.
