Senior Spotlight: Dylan Larson

Despite having their seasons cut short, the Hamline athletic department would like to recognize and honor the 2020 senior spring class of student-athletes. These 37 individuals have made a lasting impact on their program and the Hamline campus as a whole. Dylan Larson   |   Track and Field   |   Marketing and Business Analytics Major
Dylan Larson saw gradual improvement during his seasons as a Hamline thrower, capping his career off with two fourth-place finishes at the 2020 MIAC Indoor Championships, where he set personal records in both the shot put (14.52 meters) and the weight throw (17.01 meters) to earn two All-Conference Honorable Mention honors and 10 total points for the Pipers. In his two previous Indoor Championships with Hamline, he placed 11th and ninth in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, with his distance improving from 2018 to 2019. During the 2018 outdoor season, he scored for HU, placing seventh in the shot put with a distance of 14.78 meters. The following year he placed ninth in the hammer throw (49.69 meters). Larson has been named to the MIAC All-Academic Team twice in his career and on campus, he is also involved with Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). 
 
What were you most looking forward to for this spring season?
I was looking forward to throwing hammer outside and goofing around on meet days with my teammates.
 
What is one of your favorite memories of your time at Hamline?
One of my favorite memories was getting five HU throwers in the weight throw finals at the Indoor Conference Meet in 2018 - what a great competition!
 
Who is someone that has had a positive impact on you during your time as a student-athlete?
Josh Blaschko
 
What are your plans after graduation?
I am looking forward to starting my career in data analytics and spending a lot of time with family.
 
What is your advice for your younger teammates?
Hard work is very important, but so is enjoying what you're doing and who you are doing it with.
 
What are you most proud of about your career as a student-athlete?
I am most proud of being involved in what I loved, seeing my effort start to manifest into results, and doing it all with some great people around me.
 
Closing thoughts from Larson: "I will always wish I was able to compete in my final outdoor season, but I am so grateful for my Hamline experience."
