SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University volleyball team hosted St. Olaf College at Hutton Arena for their homecoming match on Saturday night. The Pipers saw their five-match win streak come to an end as they dropped a 3-1 decision to the Oles.
The Pipers fall to 12-5, 3-1 MIAC while St. Olaf improves to 7-9, 3-0 MIAC.
St. Olaf 3, Hamline 1 (23-25, 25-11, 25-17, 25-21)
The Pipers opened the first set with a 10-2 lead, which was engineered by five kills and five Ole attack errors. It wasn't enough to maintain a lead as St. Olaf took their first advantage of the set at 23-22. Hamline iced the 25-23 victory with kills from Julianna Boyum and Rachel Rettmann, and a service ace from Jenna Rubbelke.
Things weren't meant to be in the final three sets as St. Olaf iced a 3-1 win with 25-11, 25-17, and 25-21 victories.
Sydney Larson paced Hamline with 15 kills. Rachel Rettmann followed with nine kills, and came up big at the net with seven blocks. Jenna Rubbelke contributed defensively with 14 digs. Megan Rubbelke notched 31 assists for the Pipers.
Hamline will face St. Mary's (Minn.) in Winona, Minnesota on Friday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m.
