WINONA, MINN.—The Hamline University volleyball team faced St. Mary's (Minn.) in a Friday-night road bout in Winona, Minnesota. The Pipers converted their seventh 3-0 sweep of the season, as they cruised past the Cardinals.
Hamline improves to 13-5, 4-1 MIAC while St. Mary's (Minn.) falls to 7-13, 3-2 MIAC.
Hamline 3, St. Mary's (Minn.) 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-15)
A big 9-1 run in the early stages of set one gave the Pipers an 11-5 cushion after they trailed 4-2. Sydney Larson erupted for five kills for Hamline in the opening frame. St. Mary's scored 10 of their 14 points in the opening set off Hamline errors, and managed just four kills.
Outside a 3-2 deficit, Hamline never trailed in the second set. With a 15-14 advantage, the Pipers strung together a 10-3 run to close the set, engineered by Rachel Rettmann's three kills. It locked a 25-17 decision for the Pipers.
The Pipers led from start-to-finish in set three, thanks to a big 17-5 start. The Pipers registered 18 kills in the frame on a .277 hitting mark en route to a 25-15 win, and 3-0 match victory.
Rettmann had a big night offensively with 11 kills, and at the net with four blocks for Hamline. Sydney Larson notched a game-high 14 kills along with two aces and 11 digs. The dynamic duo engineered an offense that hit .324. Megan Rubbelke contributed 39 assists for the Pipers offense. Jenna Rubbelke notched a game-high 14 digs for Hamline.
The Pipers will face St. Catherine at Hutton Arena on Saturday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m.
