EAU CLAIRE, WIS.—The Hamline University volleyball team hit the road to No. 10 UW-Eau Claire for a Tuesday-night affair. The Pipers avoided the 3-0 sweep with a 25-23 win in set three, before the Blugolds iced a 3-1 victory (25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13).
Hamline falls to 18-6 while UW-Eau Claire improves to 26-3.
UW-Eau Claire 3, Hamline 1 (25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13)
The opening set saw the score read 19-19 before UW-Eau Claire generated a 6-1 run with five kills en route to a 25-20 victory. The Blugolds never trailed in their 25-20 victory in set two, which gave them a 2-0 match lead.
The third set saw Sydney Larson and Julianna Boyum notch five and four kills, respectively. That, combined with a 9-1 Hamline run in the middle stages of the set helped them avoid the sweep and secure a 25-23 victory. That momentum didn't stay with Hamline as UW-Eau Claire cruised to a 25-13 victory in set four en route to a 3-1 match win.
Sydney Larson tallied a team-leading 16 kills and 14 digs for Hamline. Megan Rubbelke posted 29 assists along with three service aces. The Blugolds, led by Arianna Barrett's 16 kills, outhit Hamline .235 to .081.
The Pipers will host Concordia Moorhead at Hutton Arena on Friday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m.
