SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's basketball team's 2021-22 MIAC opener pitted them against Augsburg at Hutton Arena on Saturday afternoon. A pair of Jake Larson three-pointers in the closing minutes cut Hamline's deficit to three points on two occasions at 66-63 with 1:12 left in the game, and at 69-66 with 0:33 remaining, where things stayed final.
The Pipers fall to 1-3, 0-1 MIAC, while Augsburg improves to 2-1, 1-0 MIAC.
Augsburg 69, Hamline 66
Hamline's lone lead of the game was brief, as Andrew Jackson's jumper with 12:23 left in the first frame made the score 12-10. It engineered a 26-8 Augsburg run that gave them their largest advantage of the contest at 36-20 with 3:04 remaining in the opening frame before going to the locker room with a 39-26 score.
The Pipers smallest deficit of the second half occurred at the tail end of the game behind a pair of Jake Larson three-pointers that made the score 66-63 with 1:12 left, and the final tally of 69-66.
Larson led Hamline with 14 points off 4-of-9 shooting from three-point land along with five assists, while Tait Nelson added 13 points, eight boards and four steals. Conner Krenos rounded out the Hamline double-figure scorers with 11 points. Cooper Berg missed out on a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Pipers will host St. Mary's (Minn.) on Tuesday, November 23 at 7 p.m.
