MANKATO, MINN.—The Hamline University men's track & field team opened their 2022 season at the Minnesota State-Mankato Chuck Petersen Open on Saturday. The Pipers captured fifth place out of 10 teams with 27 points. The host Mavericks claimed the individual team title with 216 points.

Joshua Thomsen engineered the Pipers in the 60-meter hurdle, when he tied the school record with a sixth-place time of 8.54 in the preliminaries. This ignited Thomsen, as he proceeded to break the school record in the finals with a 8.50, good enough for sixth place. Eric Hanson (2013) was the previous record holder. That's not all, Thomsen clocked-in 13th place out of 29 competitors in the 200 meter dash with a 23.25.

Will Saari highlighted the distance group, as he registered third place in the one-mile run with a 5:07.86. Connor Artner kept the third-place trend going with a time of 2:14.96 in the 800 meter run. Raul Ortiz participated in the 600 meter run, where he notched third place with a 1:34.69.

Tae'Vion Wilkins commanded the sprinters with a 12th-place time of 7.46 in the 60 meter dash.

The Pipers will return to action on Friday, January 21 at the Carleton Triangular Meet in Northfield, Minnesota.
