Hamline falls to Augsburg on Sunday afternoon

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - In their first game in two weeks, the Hamline men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Augsburg team, who shot over 60.0% from the field to claim a 92-63 win on their home court on Sunday afternoon.

The Pipers will have a chance to bounce back in just a few days, as they host Concordia Moorhead on Wednesday, February 24. The Cobbers have only played one games so far this season, falling to St. Thomas. They will take on Bethel on Monday before competing against HU. Wednesday tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Hutton Arena.

Junior Andrew Jackson put up a career-high 17 points in today's game, knocking down over half of his shots (8-14 - 57.1%). Teammate Jake Larson matched Jackson in points, going a perfect 7-7 from the floor, including hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Larson also dished out five assists.

Senior Trey Prince led the team on the boards, collecting seven rebounds, while adding 10 points and three steals to his stat line. Junior Cooper Berg chipped in with five assists and three points of his own.

As a team, the Pipers had 10 different players score in the contest, but were held to 45% shooting, whereas the Auggies hit 62% of their shots. Augsburg also cashed in on 12 points from the free-throw line, compared to HU's one point from the charity stripe.

Augsburg started the game strong, pulling ahead 10-2 in the first two minutes of the game. A few minutes later, the Pipers found themselves down 14-5, but then scored the next 10 straight points to take a 15-14 lead with a little under 14 minutes left in the half.

The score stayed close until the Auggies went on an 8-0 run to put them up 42-29, forcing HU to call a timeout. Sophomore Jake Veldman would hit a three for the Pipers in their final possession of the half, as Hamline headed to the locker room trailing 46-34.

Augsburg's Joe Palmer led all scorers in the half with 16 points, but Jackson and Larson were both in double figures already as well.
