OWATONNA, Minn. - In their second match of the season, the Hamline women's tennis team (0-2) dropped their matchup with Division II opponent Minnesota State, Mankato (2-8) 9-0 at Owatonna Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Pipers had several close matches in the contest, with two of them needing third sets to decide. In No. 2 singles, junior
Taylor Hopkins won the second set of her match 6-3 to force a tie-breaker set, but ultimately fell to Dee Dokken in three sets.

Lily Vang's match in No. 3 singles also went to three sets, but Vang fell to Lauren Goth 6-3, 3-6, 0-1.

Taylor Vyskocil played in the No. 1 spot, dropping her match to Tyanna Washa 0-6, 1-6. In the No. 4 spot, senior
Janie Schwartz took four games off her opponent in the second set, but fell 1-6, 4-6. Both first years
Jersi McAlpine and
Peyton Buerman took a few games off of their opponents, but would both fall in their matches, playing in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Â

In No. 3 doubles, Schwartz and Buerman gave MSU a tough matchup, but fell 6-8. Vang and Vyskocil also won a few games, but fell 4-8 in the No. 1 slot. In No. 2 doubles, Hopkins and McAlpine dropped their match 0-8.

The Pipers begin conference play later this week, heading to Winona to take on Saint Mary's on Friday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m.
