WINONA, Minn. - The Hamline women's tennis team (0-3, 0-1 MIAC) fell to Saint Mary's (4-2, 1-2 MIAC) 8-1 on Friday night. This was the team's first MIAC match of the year.
The Pipers sole win in the match came at No. 2 doubles where first years
Lily Vang and
Taylor Vyskocil defeated their Cardinal opponents 8-6. In No. 1 doubles, first year
Elise Bierbaum and junior
Yee Thao fell 8-1 and in No. 3 doubles, first year
Peyton Buerman and senior
Janie Schwartz fell 8-3.
In singles, first year
Jersi McAlpine (No. 6) was the only Piper to take a set off of SMU, ultimately falling in the tie-breaker set (5-7, 6-2, 5-10). Bierbaum played in the No. 1 slot, falling 6-1, 6-2 and Vyskocil played at No. 2, dropping her match 6-1, 6-2.
Junior
Taylor Hopkins, slotted in the No. 3 spot, fell 6-1, 6-2. Vang played at No. 4 singles, falling 6-4, 6-2, and Schwartz played at No. 5, falling 6-3, 6-1.
The Pipers will have a week break before their next match, facing St. Olaf on March 27 at 1:30 p.m.
