Hamline wins at No. 1 doubles in 8-1 loss at UST

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Hamline men's tennis team (2-8, 1-6 MIAC) took on St. Thomas (8-4, 6-1 MIAC) this afternoon at the Lifetime Fitness in Eden Prairie, falling to the Tommies 8-1. The Pipers recorded a win in the No. 1 doubles spot in the match, as senior Nazeer Robinson and first year Sam Thompson pulled out an 8-7 win against opponents Frank Stich and Lennart Buhl.

As has been their formula in recent matches, first years Dominic Warzecha and Isaac Hultberg were in the No. 2 spot and sophomores Sean Le and Allan Yang played at No. 3. Warzecha and Hultberg took four games off their opponents before the match was over and the sophomore duo fell 8-2 in their match.

Hultberg was the only Piper to take their St. Thomas opponent to three sets in singles, coming up just short with a 6-4, 2-6, 3-10 score in the No. 4 slot. Thompson, who was playing in the No. 2 spot, took a total of five games off his opponent, dropping the match 6-3, 6-2.

In the No. 1 spot, Robinson fell 6-0, 6-0 and Warzecha played in the No. 3 spot, falling 6-0, 6-2. Le took one game of his opponent in each set and Yang conceded his match 6-2, 6-0.

The Pipers are scheduled to play again tomorrow, heading down Snelling Avenue to take on Macalester at 12:30 p.m.
