SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University women's soccer team opened their long-awaited 2021 campaign at Pat Paterson Field against UW-River Falls on Wednesday evening. The Pipers cruised to a 4-0 victory behind a pair of goals from freshman Maya Dempsey. The game was stopped at the 70:00 mark due to darkness.
The Pipers improve to 1-0 while the Falcons fall to 0-1.
Hamline 4, UW-River Falls 0
The Pipers held a commanding 14-2 edge in shots throughout the opening 45:00 en route to a 3-0 lead. Emily Hillis made the score 1-0 with a goal in the 15th minute, before Dempsey made things 2-0 in the 40th minute. The score read 3-0 in the 41st minute courtesy of Anna Browne's goal assisted by Cailey Schmitt.
Schmitt notched her second assist of the contest in the 61st minute when she executed a pass to Dempsey, who made the score 4-0.
The Pipers outshot UW-River Falls 18-3.
Emma Mohs and Ava Braun each notched one save for Hamline, while Jolivia Gallegos made six stops for the Falcons.
The Pipers will travel to UW-Stevens Point on Sunday, September 5. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
