Auggies Capitalize in Double Overtime Against Pipers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team hosted Augsburg University in their 2021 MIAC opener on Wednesday. Both teams battled their way to a 0-0 tie until the 107th minute in the second overtime, when Nick Zuchowski's first goal of the season propelled Augsburg to a 1-0 (2OT) victory.

The Pipers fall to 2-4, 0-1 MIAC while Augsburg stays undefeated at 6-0, 1-0 MIAC.

Augsburg 1, Hamline 0 (2OT)

Hamline found themselves playing with an extra player in the 79th minute when Augsburg's Drew Collins was assessed with a red card. The playing field evened out in the 97th minute when Hamline's Nate Vogel notched a red card as a result of his second yellow card. It was the momentum Augsburg needed as Zuchowski's goal in the 107th minute gave them a 1-0 (2OT) win.

Augsburg outshot Hamline 24-14. Logan Weller peppered a team-best five shots for the Pipers. Both sides displayed solid goalkeeping as Luke Rimington notched eight saves in a complete-game effort for Hamline, while Oscar Herrera stopped five shots for Augsburg. Lay Wah (96th minute) and Peter Drivas (103rd minute) were also assessed yellow cards in the contest for Hamline.

The Pipers will return to action on Saturday, September 18 at St. Olaf. Game time is set for 12:30 p.m.
