SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University volleyball team faced No. 16 Wartburg, and UW-Stevens Point on the front-end of the UW-La Crosse Tournament in La Crosse, Wisconsin on Friday. The Pipers dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to the Knights and Pointers.
The losses drop Hamline's record to 6-3.
Wartburg 3, Hamline 0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-17)
Both teams were deadlocked at 19-19 in set one before Wartburg called a timeout, which paid dividends in a 25-22 victory. That proved to be the biggest late-set threat of the match as Wartburg cruised to 25-14 and 25-17 victories en route to a 3-0 match win.
Sydney Larson was the lone Piper with double-digit kills with 11, while Megan Rubbelke set her up with 26 assists. Jenna Rubbelke tallied a team-leading 14 digs for Hamline, while Gabby Robinson trailed her with 10.
The victory keeps Wartburg's undefeated record intact at 10-0.
UW-Stevens Point 3, Hamline 0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-21)
The Pipers' lone leads in the match occurred in the second set when they held a 2-1 advantage, and the third set when the score read 1-0. Jenna Rubbelke tallied a season-high 22 digs for Hamline. The offense was led by Rachel Rettmann's 10 kills, complimented by Megan Rubbelke's 24 assists and 13 digs. Erin Tadych was also effective for Hamline with 11 digs.
Hamline will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, September 18 on day two of the UW-La Crosse Tournament against Simpson College at 11:00 a.m., and UW-La Crosse at 3:00 p.m.
