Pipers and Royals Battle to 1-1 Draw

ARDEN HILLS, MINN.—After a week hiatus from competition, the Hamline University men's soccer team made the short trek to Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minnesota on Saturday. The Pipers notched their first tie of the season as they battled Bethel to a 1-1 score (2OT).

The Pipers exit Saturday with a 2-5-1, 0-2-1 MIAC record while Bethel's record stands at 6-1-1,  0-1-1 MIAC.

Hamline 1, Bethel 1 (2OT)

Pipers leading scorer Robert Cooper gave his team a 1-0 lead with his third goal of the season in the eighth minute, while Jared Garcia tallied his first assist of the season as the ball was deflected off of him. Hamline took that 1-0 lead into the second half, where Bethel's Austin Heckmann led a shot go from 18 yards out that found the back of the net in the 66th minute to knot the game at 1-1. Ben Richburg and TJ Frantz were credited with assists on the play.

Cooper led the Pipers with three shots in the game. Bethel outshot Hamline 18-10 in the contest. Pipers goalkeeper Luke Rimington made eight saves over 110:00 of work, while his counterpart Colin Hupert stopped six shots for Bethel in a complete-game effort.

Hamline will host Viterbo on Tuesday, September 28 at 4:00 p.m.
