SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's basketball team made the short trek down Snelling Avenue to face Macalester on Wednesday night. Cooper Berg's big night that included 32 points and nine rebounds propelled the Pipers past the Scots 71-62.
The Pipers up their record to 6-8, 4-5 MIAC, while Macalester falls to 4-9, 1-7 MIAC.
Hamline 71, Macalester 62
The Pipers didn't grab their first lead of the game until Jake Veldman's three-pointer made the score 26-24 with 3:45 left in the opening frame. Three more leads changes occurred in the contest, as the final one was off Veldman's layup with 8:48 left in the second half, which gave the Pipers a 44-42 advantage, and wouldn't trail again in a 71-62 victory.
Berg nailed all 11 of his free throws, and shot 9-of-13 from the field that included a trio of three-pointers. Veldman and Conner Krenos each added nine points for a Hamline squad that shot a season-high .477 (21-of-44) from the field.
Gabriel Ramos notched a double-double 14 points and 10 boards for Macalester.
The Pipers will host Bethel at Hutton Arena on Wednesday, January 19 at 7 p.m.
