SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's basketball team crossed the Mississippi River for a Saturday-afternoon showdown at first-place Augsburg University. The Pipers managed to hold the upper hand with a .450 (27-60) field goal percentage against Augsburg's .439 (25-57) mark, but it wasn't enough in a 79-69 loss.
Augsburg stays undefeated in conference play with a 14-2, 11-0 MIAC record, while Hamline falls to 6-10, 4-7 MIAC.

The Pipers' lone lead of the contest was brief as Jake Wohlers' three-pointer gave them a 37-36 edge with 3:45 left in the first half, before Augsburg took the driver's seat for good and locked a 79-69 victory.
Cooper Berg led all players with 22 points off a 6-of-8 mark from the three-point line for Hamline, while mid-year transfer Mick Wherley chimed in with 13 points. Conner Krenos added 11 points along with a team-leading four assists.
Both teams combined for 24 made three-pointers as each side tallied 12 apiece.
Matt Carik led Augsburg with 19 points, while Joe Palmer tallied a double-double 13 points and 12 rebounds.
The Pipers will travel to Winona, Minnesota to face Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Wednesday, January 26 at 7 p.m.
