SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's hockey team hosted Saint John's University in a non-conference bout at TRIA Rink in a rare Wednesday-afternoon affair. The Pipers set the tone with Brendan Sheehan's goal at 8:56 of the first period that made things 1-0, before the Johnnies scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 victory.
The Pipers fall to 3-10-1, while Saint John's improves to 11-5-2.

The Pipers nearly had momentum on their side heading into the first intermission, before Saint John's Brady Dahl spoiled that with 0:35 left in the opening frame that knotted things 1-1. Brett Meister gave the Johnnies the lead for good at 2-1 with 5:14 left in the second period, before they scored in the final minute of a frame for the second-straight time when Nick Michel's goal with :16 left widened the margin to 3-1. Auggie Moore's power-play tally at 10:42 of the third period was the nail in the coffin of Hamline's 4-1 loss.
The Johnnies outshot Hamline 39-24. Erik Dahl was credited with an assist on Sheehan's goal.
Pipers goalie Kevin Lake made 35 saves, while Johnnies netminder Mac Berglove stopped 23 shots.
Hamline will return to MIAC play at Bethel on Friday, January 28 at 7 p.m.
