NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team made the 33-mile trip south to Carleton for a Tuesday-afternoon MIAC bout. The Pipers either led, or were tied with the Knights throughout the opening 85 minutes. Blake Jones gave Carleton their first lead of the game with a goal in the 85th minute that propelled his squad to a 3-2 victory over Hamline.
The Pipers fall to 3-10, 0-6 MIAC, while the Knights improve to 6-4-2, 4-2 MIAC.
Carleton 3, Hamline 2
Despite trailing for a majority of the contest, Carleton held a 19-4 edge in shots. All four Piper shots occurred in the first half. It resulted in a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute, when Robert Cooper took a throughball from Logan Weller and snuck s shot past the goalkeeper's right side.
Carleton's Owen Flanagan knotted the game at 1-1 in the 61st minute. The Pipers regained a 2-1 lead five minutes later when the Knights goalkeeper dropped the ball off an ensuing corner kick.
Hamline took that 2-1 lead into the final 10 minutes of the contest, where Carleton secured a 3-2 victory behind goals from Jonathan Vonderlage in the 83rd minute, and Blake Jones in the 85th. Vonderlage assisted on Blake's goal for a three-point outing.
Only five-of-19 Knights shots were on goal, and Pipers goalkeeper Luke Rimington stopped two of them. Carleton netminder Alexei Thomas made two saves.
Hamline will host Saint John's on Saturday, October 15 for a 3:30 p.m. game.
