Pipers Stumble Down the Stretch Against Johnnies

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team hosted Saint John's (Minn.) in a Saturday-afternoon bout at Pat Paterson Field. Three unanswered goals propelled the Johnnies in a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over the Pipers.

Hamline drops to 3-11, 0-7 MIAC, while Saint John's improves to 6-3-3, 3-3-1 MIAC.

The first half was all Hamline, who out shot Saint John's 8-6. Kaidan Popp struck first with a goal in the 15th minute that gave Saint John's a 1-0 lead, before Logan Weller's eighth tally of the season in the 22nd minute knotted things at 1-1. Senior defender Nate Vogel gave Hamline a 2-1 lead with his second career tally, and first of the season in the 61st minute off a feed from Jake Sullivan.

The Johnnies would out shoot the Pipers 9-2 from that point forward, which resulted in three unanswered goals courtesy of Matt D. Anderson in the 65th minute, Aidan Becken in the 76th, and Kevin Stark-Haws in the 85th.

Saint John's finished with a 20-11 edge in shots. Weller peppered a game-high six shots for the Pipers. Both teams were assessed two yellow cards.

Luke Rimington made six saves in net for Hamline, while his counterpart Evan Skiefken stopped four shots for the Johnnies.

The Pipers will travel to Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Saturday, October 22 for a 3:30 p.m. match.
