WINONA, MINN.—The Hamline University men's soccer team embarked on a Saturday-afternoon road tilt at Saint Mary's (Minn.). The dynamic duo of Robert Cooper and Logan Weller prevailed again as they each netted goals, which powered Hamline to their first MIAC win of the season by a 3-2 score over the Cardinals.
The Pipers improve to 4-11, 1-7 MIAC, while the Cardinals fall to 3-10-3, 0-7-1 MIAC.
Hamline 3, Saint Mary's (Minn.) 2
The game's first shot of the game found the back of the net, courtesy of Garrett Jackson's score in the eighth minute that gave Saint Mary's a 1-0 lead. The Weller-Cooper duo ignited a Hamline offense as they each scored within three minutes apart. Weller did the honors first with his ninth goal of the season in the 24th minute, which made things 1-1. Cooper followed suit with a tally in the 27th minute that gave Hamline a 2-1 lead.
The second half saw both teams trade a goal, which began with Jacob Clements'Â score in the 52nd minute that knotted things at 2-2. Freshman Drew Axel picked up his first collegiate point when he fed Robert Cooper's second goal of the game in the 72nd minute that sealed a 3-2 victory.
Hamline out shot Saint Mary's 15-8. Luke Rimington made three saves in net for the Pipers, while Daniel Sessler and Connor Petrich combined for five stops between the pipes for the Cardinals.
Hamline was victim of two-of-three yellow cards in the contest.
The Pipers will travel to Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday, October 26 for a 3:30 p.m. start.
