SAINT PETER, MINN.—The Hamline University women's soccer team embarked on a Tuesday-afternoon MIAC battle at Gustavus Adolphus. Piper goalkeeper Lauren Sicora's season-high 14 saves, along with Maya Dempsey's goal in the 87th minute sealed a 1-0 shutout over the Gusties.
Hamline, who recorded their seventh shutout of the 2022 season, improves to 4-8-4, 2-7-1 MIAC, while Gustavus falls to 7-8-1, 4-6-0 MIAC.

Both teams combined for 42 shots, the most in a single game this season. The Gusties held a 24-18 advantage in that category, but it was Hamline who weathered the storm with a 9-8 edge in the second half. The Pipers' final shot of the contest in the 87th minute resulted in a goal courtesy of Maya Dempsey with an assist from Carin Currier that made the score 1-0. It marked Dempsey's team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Sicora's fifth shutout consisted of a season-high 14 saves. Abby Goodno tallied eight stops in net for Gustavus.
Dempsey and Cailey Schmitt tied for a team-high five shots.
Hamline will close their 2022 season at Pat Paterson Field on Saturday, October 29, when they'll host Concordia (Minn.) for senior day at 1 p.m.
